“1984” was written by George Orwell and was published in 1949. It’s a science fiction novel and a dystopian novel.

The story is set in a dark London that is always at war. The main characters are Winston Smith and Julia. They are two lovers in a society where the government controls everything. The government is called the Party and the name of the leader is Big Brother. There are telescreens and microphones everywhere: in all the streets and inside their homes; the Party uses them to control and pursue the liars. Romantic love is forbidden,  also the thoughts against the party.

They meet in a dark and dirty little room because they are poor. In the end they are trapped and punished and separated forever. because there was a telescreen behind the picture on the wall.

My favourite character is Julia because she wants to be free and is self-confident.

In my opinion this book explains the same that happens  at present In the story people hate the screens. Today they are bought and carried in our pocket. Winston is afraid because someone is watching him. Nowadays we share photos of our location, the Party controls information today, social media controls what we also see. In 1984 it was forced and today it is voluntary.I like this novel, I would recommend it to people who like dystopian stories

The book is called “When Summer Comes” and it was written by Helen Naylor and was published in 1999. It’s a romantic contemporary novel and the story is set in Polreath, a village on the Atlantic coast.

One of the main characters is Anna, a nurse who is 30 years old and has been married to Stephen for ten years. And then there is another couple, Tristan, who is in his early thirties, and his girlfriend Jill.

It’s not a real story and it’s about a couple who goes on holiday to Polreath and knows Tristan, a fisherman who works and lives there. Tristan is handsome and he has broken his relationship with Jill, who has gone to London to work. Step by step Ana and Tristan fall  in love, and the situation becomes more difficult when Stephen leaves his work and he wants to buy a house in Polreath and live there, and Anna has a date with Tristan when Stephen is out in London.

My favourite character is Stephen because he is brave and he tries to start a different life far away from London and his good job as a marketing executive. He’s also an idealist and I like it.

I didn’t like the book  a lot because it is a genre that’s not my favourite, but it’s exciting, fast to read and interesting. It explores what happens when a couple is together for a long time and how it can be overcome when one of the members knows another person and likes her. I recommend it  for people who like romantic stories.

📖 Title: A Matter of Chance

✍️ Writer: David A. Hill

🏢 Publisher: Cambridge University Press (1999)

🎭 Genre: Drama, mystery

The book is called A Matter of Chance. It was written by David A. Hill and published by Cambridge University Press in 1999. It is a drama and mystery novel.

The story is about Paul Morris, an Englishman living in Italy. His wife Jacky dies in an accident when a roof tile falls from a building and hits her on the head. Paul feels very sad and alone.

After some time, he starts a new relationship with Sandra, a woman from his office. At first she seems friendly, but Paul notices strange things.

Sandra has secrets, and Paul discovers that she is involved in dangerous criminal activities. This is difficult for him, and in the end he is alone again. He decides to start his life slowly and be more careful.

The book is based on a fictional story about chance and how life can change in a moment.

My favourite character is Paul because he is strong and patient. He tries to continue with his life even when things are difficult.

The book is easy to read, emotional and interesting. The plot is short and clear, and the ending is surprising.

I recommend this book because it’s simple, exciting and shows how life can change very fast. In my opinion it’s two thumbs up.

The book Wonder was written by R.J.Palacio and published in 2012, the genre of the book is Fiction Novel. The iconic book was a bestseller with more than 12 millon copies sold.

This book explains the life of Auggi Pullman, a ten-year-old boy who was born with a facial deformity and he is about to enter in a new school. The book describes how hard it can be for a little boy with a facial deformity to be included as a normal boy for the first time in a school.

This book shows us a current problem that happens nowadays: The bullying in schools and how to act in order to overcome problems.

I recommend this book because, although the author based the book on a fictional plot, the things that happens in the life of Auggi, are real things that happens nowadays in several schools.
